Job Vacancy – Activities Manager

Capricorn Caves , Rockhampton are a significant environmental site and major tourist destination in Central Queensland . The property has advanced Ecotourism accreditation and has received numerous awards such as the Queensland Tourism Award for Excellence in 2003 & Queensland Tourism Award for Best Adventure Tourism in 2005.

An opportunity has arisen to join the team with specialist responsibilities for managing adventure activities and school camp programs based on the Eco Adventure Lodge.

Applicants must be energetic, enthusiastic and able to relate to a wide cross section of the community in an articulate manner. They must have a passionate interest in the environment and outdoor recreation. They must be aware and responsible for implementing all safety procedures, provide training and ensure safety procedures are adhered to. As a department leader they must be able to provide effective leadership and support for staff under their direction.

Capricorn Caves staff work as a team and applicants must share responsibility for the provision of guest services in a multi faceted tourist operation.

KEY DUTIES
•  Provide leadership, training and support for a small team of activity instructors.
•  Management (including maintenance) of all adventure equipment & infrastructure. Such as: High Ropes Course, Climbing Wall & PP equipment.
•  Deliver interpretative tours through limestone caves.
•  Lead small groups on wild caving adventures and abseiling activities.
•  Supervise and implement rope course and teambuilding activities.
•  Organise and lead school camp programs including night activities
•  Work as a team member in the provision of guest services.
•  Develop and promote outdoor recreation and school programs.

REQUIRED SKILLS
•  Experience/qualifications/accreditation in all of the following areas

Outdoor recreation
•  Horizontal Caving
•  Abseiling
•  High Ropes Course
•  Climbing Wall
•  Initiative & Teambuilding Programs
•  Program Development & Risk Management

Education
•  Knowledge of Qld Educations system
•  Knowledge of syllabus based outcomes
•  Any teaching or tutoring/coaching experience (desirable)

Tour guiding
•  Ecotourism
•  Environmental impact minimization
•  Understanding of environmental systems associated with Caves & surrounding Dry Rain Forest
•  Understanding of Geomorphology associated with limestone caves

Management/Leadership
•  Provide training & support for Instructors & Tour Guides.
•  Manage team of instructors from a “lead by example” point of view.
•  Knowledge of equipment, maintenance & safety checks for all PP equipment
•  Management of High Ropes Course & Climbing Wall
•  First aid qualifications
•  Certificate 4 in Workplace Training & Assessment
•  Own transport and drivers license essential

CONDITIONS
•  Permanent part time position
•  Flexible hours averaging 35 –38 hours per week with some night and weekend work
•  Opportunities for overtime and bonus increments according to skills of applicant.
